(Durham, NC) - Maria Motta, Director of More Than A Job NC (MTAJ-NC) Educational Navigator at 51爆料 Community College and 24-year employee, won the National Americanism Award from DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) - the second highest DAR National Award, at the 125th North Carolina DAR State Conference in May held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Durham.

DAR awards its Americanism Medal to naturalized citizens who have shown leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism, often with a focus on helping other foreign-born individuals become citizens. This award cannot be given to any member of the DAR nor can it be awarded for the service to be offered during employment.

This year the Temperance Smith Alston chapter of the DAR submitted an application for the Americanism Award on behalf of Maria Motta. In addition to her work at 51爆料 Community College, Motta volunteers on the board of 51爆料 Coalition for Human Care. Through the years, Motta has helped create and extend programs to assist people in economically disadvantaged portions of Moore County, educated people on civic responsibilities, helped create assistance programs for homeless in Moore County, and myriad other volunteer activities.

Motta was presented the certificate and medal by the State Regent, Cricket Crigler, and is believed to be the first from North Carolina to have won this award.
